Premium Cruise Princess Cruises

Premium cruising

Premium cruises offer similar activities to a mainstream cruise line but with more upscale amenities and service. Generally rated four or five stars, premium cruise ships range from mid-sized to large, holding between 500 and 1,500 passengers and offering more space per guest than contemporary vessels.

The standard of onboard cuisine is generally high and most premium cruise lines offer a healthy assortment of alternative dining options. Food is often served in an open-seated arrangement with one or two different dining venues. Staterooms are slightly more spacious on premium cruise vessels and decor is often more elegant and conservative in style.

Premium cruises offer a wide range of onboard activities, especially on larger ships, but activities are often low-key and cater to those wanting to enrich their cultural experience. Entertainment includes shows, guest artists and educational lectures. Children are welcome, but catered facilities on premium cruises are not as extensive as you will find on mainstream ships.

Boasting a more refined and formal atmosphere, premium cruises tend to attract wealthy, experienced passengers such as successful businesspeople and retired travellers. Service on board premium cruise ships is of a high standard and can include added features like butler service for selected suites. Extras such as bathrobes and designer soaps are often included in the cost of a premium cruise.

Premium cruises cost on average $150 to $400 per person, per day. Premium cruise lines include Celebrity Cruises, Holland America Line, Princess Cruises and Oceania Cruises.
