Contemporary cruising
Contemporary cruises typically encompass the biggest ships in the industry. They also carry the highest number of passengers per available space. Staterooms on contemporary cruise ships range from inside cabins for three and four passengers to a variety of outside cabin configurations, with or without balconies. Top-notch suites may or may not come with numerous extra amenities.
There is generally a high volume of activities planned on contemporary cruises to keep even the most hyperactive passenger content. Entertainment tends to be high-energy Las Vegas-style shows, lounges and discos for dancing and piano bars for quieter pursuits. Ideal for families, contemporary cruise lines offer some of the most extensive programs for children and teens. Large spas with fully equipped gyms, exercise rooms and jogging tracks are as common on contemporary cruise ships as the multiple swimming pools and hot tubs.
Contemporary cruise dining is generally shipboard traditional with assigned seating areas in the main restaurant. However, mainstream cruise lines are experimenting with variations of open-seating dining and alternative restaurant options that allow contemporary cruise passengers to dine when and with whom they please. Contemporary cruising is about choice, so you'll always find something to eat whether from one of a variety of restaurants or 24-hour room service. Food is often banquet-style fare with service always friendly but not necessarily polished or overwhelming.
Contemporary cruising passengers are generally first-timers of all ages. Contemporary cruise lines are ideal for every type of cruiser including singles, families and groups looking for a fun and exhilarating vacation.
