Things You Can Do On Sea Days

When packing for a cruise, some people bring along a bunch of books, gadgets, handheld game consoles, and all manner of things to help them pass the time, especially during sea days. Little do they know that they won't really need it, because there are a staggering number of things you can do onboard a cruise ship, that will keep you entertained until you reach your next port of call. Below are a few suggested activities:
Enjoy the peace and quiet
We go on vacation mainly to relax and de-stress. One of the best ways to do this on your cruise is to enjoy the peace and quiet and do absolutely nothing. You can sunbathe and lounge in the pool, meditate in your room, lie down and listen to music on your iPhone, retreat at the library and read a book, stare at the ocean, or just nap at your balcony. Make the most of the inactivity—it's not something you can do every day.
Learn a skill or three
Cruises offer many opportunities for you to learn and cultivate a skill. You can attend classes on pairing food and wine, cooking, wine tasting, dancing, playing the piano, digital photography, water colouring, watercolour painting, pottery, scrapbooking, flower arrangement, stress management, learning another language, acting, and many more.
Play sports
If you like to be up and about, you can take advantage of your cruise ship's many sports facilities. You can play basketball, tennis, squash, bowling, ice skating, rock climbing, Ping-Pong, surfing, and swimming. Some ships also have mini golf courses, golf driving cages, and baseball batting cages for practicing your swing. If you're into running or brisk walking, you can go around the track that encircles the ship's sports deck.
Join the fun activities
Cruise ships arrange a lot of activities to keep passengers busy, especially on sea days. Aside from the ones mentioned above, you can also engage in other offbeat pursuits like hairy chest competitions and the Rubber Chicken Olympics. If you like something tamer, you can play bingo, foosball, bridge, and shuffleboard, which is an all-time cruise ship favourite.
Experience the food and drinks
Love food? Then you should try out the wide variety of culinary choices available aboard. You can have the usual pizza, ice cream, pasta, and steak options, or try something different like Indian, Mongolian, Mediterranean, Japanese, and many other cuisines from other countries. Wash the food down with champagne, beer, wine, specialty coffee, or whatever your taste buds want.
Exercise
Since there are a variety of gastronomic experiences on cruise ships, your vacation should also be a great time to get some exercise. You can hang out in the gym during this time and lift some weights, jog on the treadmill, get on the indoor cycle, strengthen your body with yoga, or build up endurance on the boxing ring. If the gym is full, you can always take the stairs.
Pamper yourself
What would a vacation be without the usual self-indulgence? Reward yourself with massages, facials, a manicure or pedicure, aromatherapy, Botox, a relaxing sauna session, mud baths, milk baths, and all manner of spa treatments.
Be entertained
You'll never run out of entertainment options aboard a cruise ship. You can watch afternoon parades, Broadway shows, plays, musicals, stand-up comedians, a variety of bands, 3D movies, interactive shows, concerts, high-tech puppet shows, and magic shows, among others.
Enjoy the nightlife
Want to paint the town (or cruise ship) red? Try out the vibrant nightlife that cruise ships have to offer. You can hang out and enjoy the live music, dance in the club, relish your drink in the piano bar, or have fun at the casino. You can even watch a movie at the poolside theatre or just walk on the deck and whip out your binoculars for some stargazing.
