Magnificent christening for Magnifica
Monday March 8, 2010

There is a now a new MSC Cruises ship sailing the seas – MSC Magnifica was christened on Saturday March 6 in Hamburg, by screen actress Sophia Loren.
The official ceremony honoured the ';Get on Board for Children'; campaign – the ongoing alliance between MSC Cruises and UNICEF';s work with underprivileged children in Brazil, which encourages passengers to add a $1.50 donation to UNICEF on their final bill. The aim of the campaign is to give every child living in poor communities access to high-quality education and to raise awareness that education should be the foundation of every community.
The Executive Director of UNICEF Switzerland Elsbeth Mller, Vice Chair for UNICEF';s German Committee Maria von Welser and distinguished singer and UNICEF goodwill ambassador Nana Mouskouri, all attended the inauguration. They gave speeches about the partnership and witnessed the traditional crest exchange ceremony between MSC Magnifica Captain Giuliano Bossi and Hamburg Port Authorities.
Newly christened MSC Magnifica will now sail seven-night itineraries around the Mediterranean, while raising money for a worthy cause.
