Australian cruising trends 2010

Friday March 5, 2010

Booking trends for the 2010 cruising season have so far shown that European and Mediterranean cruises, luxury cruising throughout Asia, close to home cruises and world sector journeys are the most popular bookings for Australian cruise-lovers, according to cruise specialists Cruiseabout.

Close-to-home sailings have been boosted with the arrival of Pacific Jewel and world sector cruising has been made popular with the coming of the new Queen Elizabeth from Cunard. However, it is the Asian and European cruises catching Australians'; eyes.

Potentially due to the rise of the Australian dollar, the strong demand for European and Mediterranean cruises means that many departures during the Australian winter are showing limited availability despite there being a huge assortment of ships and itineraries to choose from. Especially popular has been the luxury, small-ship categories with an emphasis on service and intimacy.

This hasn';t just been reserved to European cruising as Cruiseabout has also recorded high sales on luxury cruises in Asia, with cruise lines Azamara and Yachts of Seabourn leading the way with excellent value for product. The close proximity of Asia combined with low-cost airfares for the region mean it is the perfect affordable holiday for Australians.
