Ghizo expresses thanks to Orion

Tuesday February 9, 2010

The provincial town of Ghizo, in the Solomon Islands, has expressed thanks to Orion Expedition Cruises for the company';s continued support after a tsunami destroyed most of the island';s villages in 2007.

Since the disaster, Orion has been a regular visitor to Ghizo, bringing much-needed cash into the local economy. Passengers have enjoyed the ornate wooden carvings with mother-of-pearl inlay, taking informal tours to World War II historic sites and scuba diving adventures.

Ghizo';s provincial member, the Honourable Danny Kennedy, has thanked Orion Expedition Cruises and its passengers for donations that have built two new women';s sewing centres, providing not only clothing but important social ties among the community.
