Hawaii Cruising Up
Friday July 3, 2009

Although there are fewer local cruise ships and visiting cruise ships from out of state, business is up 6.7 per cent in Hawaii.
There were 38,233 out-of-state cruise ship visitors through March, compared to 35,847 during the same period last year, according to data just released from the Hawaii Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism.
Nine out-of-state cruise ships came to the islands in March, compared with seven last year. The departure of NCL's Pride of Hawaii and Pride of Aloha have opened up port capacity for more out-of-state cruise ships to enter the islands.
In April, there were eight out-of-state cruise ship visits, compared to five in April 2008.
The overall decline in cruise visitors for March 2009 was largely due to the departure of the Pride of Aloha, which left in mid-May last year.
