Captain Cook welcomes Aboriginals

Thursday July 2, 2009

Leading Sydney Harbour cruise operator, Captain Cook Cruises and Indigenous community organisation, Tribal Warrior Association, have announced a partnership to promote the Aboriginal Cultural Cruise.

Tourists can now embark on a journey of discovery around Sydney Harbour to hear first hand the stories of the Eora, Gadigal, Guringai, Wangal, Gammeraigal and Wallumedegal people and the indigenous significance of many of Sydney Harbour's landmarks.

One of the highlights of the Aboriginal Cultural Cruise is a visit to Clark Island where passengers come ashore for an Aboriginal cultural performance and learn about traditional fishing methods and food gathering techniques.

The Aboriginal Cultural Cruise is operated onboard Deerubbun, a 60-passenger, ex-Navy Torpedo Recovery Vessel built by the great Australian Halvorsen family during World War II, and the only authentic Australian Aboriginal owned and crewed vessel on Sydney Harbour.

For larger groups, Tribal Warrior has access to Captain Cook Cruises' extensive fleet of cruise, sail and solar-powered vessels.

Prices are $60 for adults, $45 for concession and $40 for children (5-14yrs).
