Africa and the Indian Ocean
Africa and the Indian Ocean are home to a prized selection of the world’s most luscious, untouched beaches.
Madagascar’s Île Aux Nattes, a small island south of Île Sainte-Marie represents the crème de la crème of idyllic destinations, with picture postcard palms, white sands and sparkling waters. Travelling to this untouched destination by cruise is ideal, given the island’s absence of cars and roads. Another famed attraction is Mnemba Island; a tiny island lined with stunning pine forests and surrounded by a fish-filled reef.
Then there’s Kenya’s Lamu beach, a 12km crescent boasting stunning views of the Indian Ocean beachscape and surrounding dunes. Alternatively, cruise to Mozambique’s Quirimba National Park, home to pristine white sands and pure waters, or Zanzibar’s Nungwi; renowned for its ghostly white sands and neon-blue waters and still virtually untouched by the tourist trade.
If horseriding is your gambit, cruise to Noordhoek Beach in South Africa’s Cape Town, which boasts a 6km length perfect for riding day-trips.
Alternatively, there’s Mauritious’ St-Géran, which occupies part of a 24ha private peninsula and offers travellers a medley of opportunities for windsurfing, water-skiing and snorkelling.
